Emergency Shelter Assistant Coordinator - OVERNIGHTS

About this role:

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Emergency Shelter Assistant Coordinator (ESAC) oversees a team responsible for supervising children who are utilizing the emergency shelter and in the custody of DCF. This happens when there are no placement options for the children. The ESAC handles many administrative and supervisory responsibilities. The ESAC is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing the identified needs of the children at the emergency shelter.  The ESAC will assist in taking all referrals according to the policy, manage the staff of Youth Support Advocates, and ensure the shelter home is managed appropriately, clean, and stocked with supplies and food. 

Schedule: Overnights

  • Monday 8 pm - 6 am
  • Tuesday 8 pm - 6 am
  • Thursday 8 pm - 6 am
  • Friday 8 pm - 6 am

We are looking for people who have: 

  • A bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field, or an associate’s degree with 2 years of related experience is required.
  • Knowledge of working with DCF, preferred.
  • Able to meet the required competency level in Microsoft Office Software, required.
  • Ability to work with children with moderate to severe behavioral concerns and/or mental health or substance use diagnoses, required.
  • Knowledge of children with special needs, including developmental disabilities as well as medical and/or other needs, preferred.

In this role, you'll get to:

  • Supervise and support full-time, part-time, and relief Youth Support Advocate
  • Provide quality assurance oversight of department caseloads to ensure quality delivery of services, appropriate documentation and collateral contacts.
  • Participate in mandatory program meetings such as weekly division meetings, Emergency Shelter meetings and Leadership meetings, as needed.
  • Participate in group and individual supervision sessions, as needed.

  • On-call responsibilities.
  • Assists Program Coordinator in new hire training curriculum, as needed.
  • Assists with the executing of Youth Support Advocates annual and modified trainings, as needed.
  • Ensures compliance and adherence to the Kennedy-Donovan Center and the Department of Children and Families philosophy and mission statements.
  • Participate in the development of treatment plans with the Clinical Coordinator, as needed.
  • Provide advocacy for individuals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources and community providers to ensure timely, safe, and appropriate placement services.
  • Comply with all KDC and DCF documentation requirements.
  • Provide transportation, as needed.
  • Complete intakes of all new children.
  • Maintain staffing operational standards including coverage.
  • Assisting Program Coordinator in disciplinary actions, as needed.
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Some Travel may be required
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time

  • Ability to use computer
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to successfully complete QBS SafetyCare Training provided by KDC.
  • Ability to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and/or limited mobility (such as lifting, transporting) if needed.
